What to expect from AutomaCon 2015 (Part 2)

by Caleb Hailey | Tuesday, August 11, 2015

Hello fellow operators! If you missed Part 1 of this series, make sure to check it out to learn more about what makes AutomaCon unique, our compelling lineup of speakers, and an authentic Portland experience that you won’t want to miss. Then come back for part 2…

TL;DR: we care about diversity, a lot. So much that we started a Diversity Scholarship program for AutomaCon. If you or someone you know qualifies, please apply today. In other news, we’re announcing a third day of activities for AutomaCon 2015 and opening a new CFP for lightning talks and workshops. Please submit a proposal ASAP if you are interested in getting involved.

Diversity Scholarships

If you didn’t know, now you know - AutomaCon will begin awarding Diversity Scholarships this Friday, August 14! If you or someone you know qualifies, please let them know where to submit an application.

Heavy Water recognizes that a strong community consists of a diverse collection of people. Conference attendance should not be a privilege limited to those who can personally afford to be present, or whose employers provide compensation for participation. As such, we wanted to make sure that AutomaCon as an event would be committed to offering scholarships to cover admission and travel expenses for members of our community who could not otherwise attend.

Workshops & Lightning Talks, oh my!

By popular demand, we’re very excited to announce that a third day of activities has been planned for AutomaCon 2015. In addition to the first two days of single-track format presentations, event space has been secured for an optional third-day of lightning talks and multi-track workshops. If you’re interested in getting involved, please submit a proposal for a lightning talk or workshop today!

The Crumpacker Family Library

In addition to the three (3) spaces we have secured inside the Portland Art Museum for workshops, we will also have space for smaller groups to get together in the Crumpacker Family Library room (a former performing arts theater turned museum archive library) for mini hackday sessions.

We’re very excited to invite everyone to stick around for Day 3 activities, and we can’t wait to see what comes out of the lightning talk & workshop CFP.
